This existing Victorian home in the village of Ingatestone, near Brentwood in Essex was extensively extended in designs prepared by Design House Architecture and Planning (Essex). The existing house contained a small galley style kitchen and no dining room, so a small rear extension was added under permitted development rights with prior approval to gain a larger open plan kitchen and dining room. Discussions were held with adjoining neighbours, local planning authorities and the clients to enable a design that was in keeping with the period property but met the brief outlined by the owners. A great benefit of the design was the addition of rooflights and bi-fold doors to the garden which allow vast amounts of natural light to flood in to the home.
